This page contains details of my efforts to lose weight during 2003

In early June 2003, I decided that I needed to lose a substantial amount of weight. I found that I had reached the awful weight of 117.4 Kg (258 lbs) My waist measured a very tight 42 inches at the start of the diet.

My health was being affected in many ways, including breathing and sleeping difficulties. So, on Monday 2nd of June 2003 I started a diet and exercise program. I did not count calories, but instead decided on a low fat diet. This meant giving up all those things I enjoyed so much, but had brought to me to this weight crises.

The exercise amounted to 50 minutes per day on an exercise cycle and a couple of sessions with a pair of ten Kg hand weights to help with upper body fitness.

I set myself a target of about 25 Kg (56 lbs) by Christmas 2003. I surpassed my own expectations by achieving this target in early November 2003. You can see a photo series of my progress by clicking on this thumbnail.

Out went doughnuts, chocolate and large portions of meat. The following list is typical of what I ate during the period I was on the diet.

Breakfast

Cornflakes, Porridge or Muesli with semi-skimmed milk.

Mid Morning

Lunch

An apple, a Nutri-grain biscuit and a low fat yogurt.

Mid Afternoon

Evening Meal

Safeway Eatsmart Low Fat Ready Meal  Various varieties including ; Curry, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Baked Haddock, Sausage & Mash, Chilli con Carne, and several others.

120 Grams of steamed vegetables.

Mid Evening

Coffee no sugar with low fat Coffee-mate powder.

Late Snack

A banana, a Nutri-grain biscuit and a low fat yogurt.
